We produce rose water by using steam distillation of Rosa Damascena flowers (damask rose flowers). During production of rose oil, the by product, distillate ( water left in the receiver ) is called the real and genuine floral water of rose. Rose water can be used during making of skin care toners, creams and face masks. In ancient times, Romans enjoyed bathing of rose water and still it is used there as an antibacterial and antiseptic.
In Asia and Middle east it is highly used as an ingredient of food flavor. The meat can also be cooked and infused with it.
In India rose water is highly used as primary flavor in sweet treats. A teaspoon can be added in Indian Lassi Drink (made by yogurt).
Rose water is being used in food flavors but there are more sacred importance of this precious thing. In Hindus, it is highly used during worship of Lord Shiva.
Rose water can be used as an astringent for face and body. It has pH value of 7 which makes the skin nourishing and the therapeutic property of rose makes it more powerful. The astringent can be prepared in home too. Some of the recipes are as follows:
1) Cucumber Astringent
1 peeled and mashed cucumber
3 tbsp. Rose-water.
2 tbsp. Eau-de-cologne
1 tbsp. Glycerin.
Directions:
Mash the cucumber. Add rose water, eau-de-cologne and glycerin and mix well. Strain before use. Refrigerate.
2) Rose Water & Glycerine Astringent
1/2 pint olive oil
1 ounce rose water
a few drops of glycerin
1 ounce vodka
Directions:
Combine all ingredients. Apply with a clean cotton ball.
3) Lemon Orange Astringent
1/2 thinly sliced lemon
1/2 thinly sliced orange
3/4 cup ethanol alcohol
Directions:
Combine lemon, orange, and alcohol in a blender and mix until fruits are pulverized. Strain liquid into a jar using a small strainer or cheesecloth. Tightens your pores, refreshes your skin, and helps remove oils from skin. Will keep 6 months refrigerated. Yield, 3/4 cup.
